Change the Look of Web Pages

You can change the appearance of text and plain backgrounds in web pages to suit your own preferences. You may prefer to use larger fonts or different colours.

The designer of a web page may have specified the use of certain fonts or colours in a style sheet. You can enable Internet Explorer to ignore the settings in the style sheet and use your preferred settings.

Note: Graphics are not affected by these options. If a web page uses a graphic in the background, some font colours may not be legible.

To change the way web pages look

  • From the Tools menu, select Internet Options…

The Options dialogue box is displayed.

  • Select the General tab
  • From the bottom of the dialogue box, click the Colors… button

  • In the Colors panel, uncheck the Use Windows colors box
  • Select the colours you want to use
  • Optionally, change the colour of links too
  • Click OK
  • Click the Fonts… button

  • From the Web page font: box, select the font you want to use

Tip: To set larger or smaller font sizes, from the View menu, select Text Size then select the option you want.

  • Click OK
  • Click the Accessibility… button

  • In the Formatting panel, select all the check boxes to override web page defaults with your settings
  • Click OK to close the dialogue boxes

Configure Default Applications

You can choose which applications to use as the default for sending email, viewing newsgroups, editing web pages and so on.

To configure default applications

  • From the Tools menu, select Internet Options…
  • Select the Programs tab

  • Select the programs you want to use from the list boxes
  • Click OK
