I tried compiling my C++ file, complex.cpp from the Visual Studio 2010 command prompt using cl
C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 10.0VC>cl complex.cpp
and received the following error. Fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: ‘complex.cpp’ : No such file or directory
My file complex.cpp is located in the Documents folder in C: Do I need to specify the path? If needed, how do I do that?
Specifications: Win Vista SP2 32bit, 4GB Ram, 2.2Ghz Core 2 duo
Thank you so much.
There’s a couple things you should check:1. Add the path for C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 10.0VC to your environment’s PATH variable (it may already be there and you could check that in the My Computer/Properties/Advanced System Settings/Environment Variables.2. Move to the folder where the file exists using the cd (change directory) command in the CMD shell. You should be able to do ‘dir’ and see the file in the list. Then run the cl command from there.Alternatively, you could just put the whole path on from the VC folder:cl “c:whereverfileisinpathcomplex.cpp”Tom/
